PROF ALEX RICHTER

BIO

Alexander Richter is a Professor of Information Systems, co-founder of the digital work lab (http://digitalworklab.net) and the Associate Dean, Professional Programmes at Wellington School of Business and Government.

He researches the interplay of individual practices, organisational context and information technology. His articles on digital work, social media, smart factories and digital innovation have been published in many leading journals, awarded with several best paper awards (e.g. by Vine journal, HICSS, ACIS, Bled) and have been cited more than 4000 times.

Prof Richter believes in the positive impact of engaged scholarship. Over the last 10 years, he was involved in more than 30 projects with leading companies and research institutes aiming to contribute to the design of digital workplaces and has facilitated industrial change projects for companies like Airbus, Allianz, Bayer, BMW and Bosch. For example, he led the requirements analysis in the major European project “Worker-Centric Workplaces for Smart Factories” from 2014 to 2018.

His earlier appointments include Associate Professor for “Workplace Studies” at IT-University of Copenhagen and research group leader (Digital Work) – both at University of Zurich and Bundeswehr University Munich. He also held visiting positions at the University of Sydney, Copenhagen Business School, the University of Auckland and is currently a research fellow at Munich Business School. He is a member of a number of Editorial Boards, including the Editorial Advisory Board of the International Journal of Information Management (the #1 IS journal according to CiteScore and Impact Factor) and the Editorial Board of Business & Information Systems Engineering.

He also represented New Zealand in the IS panel in the recent major ABDC Journal Quality List Review (2019). His further community engagement includes roles as guest co-editor in special issues (e.g. in the Information Systems Journal, 2019), Programme Chair (ACIS 2020), Panel Chair (ECIS 2019), Track Chair (ECIS 2015-2022). He has co-chaired similar tracks at ICIS, ACIS, HICSS, WI and other conferences and is a regular reviewer for journals like JMIS, EJIS, JIT, JAIS and others.
