BIO

My research centres around understanding the challenges and impacts arising from digital change, innovation and technology adoption, to help leaders guide future action. Examples are the issues arising from the use of data-driven decision-making, predictive analytics and artificial intelligence; and the implications of ‘intelligent’ technologies for the future of work, Areas of special interest are leadership of smart cities, smart city strategy, how ‘intelligent’ IT is changing work and the role of IT; and using social media to foster change.

My work has been published in high quality journals including JAIS, CAIS and Knowledge and Process Management. I’m also co-author of books chapter and industry reports. I’ve won international awards for my research, and have presented at many conferences including ICIS, PACIS, ECIS and HICSS.

From 2014-2018 I was Director of the Master of Information Management programme, a management qualification for senior IT professionals. I greatly value keeping in touch with our network of alumni, from whom I have learned a lot. Many are in senior roles in the public or private sector, or managing their own business.

My professional background spans television writing and directing, visitor experience design, learning design, educational publishing, and IT project management. I’ve worked as a team manager, senior manager, manager of R&D, and private consultant/adviser in digital strategy and experience design. I greatly enjoy working with managers and industry practitioners to help them understand opportunities and barriers, and to achieve positive outcomes.
